Beach Read Discussion Questions PLUS a Beach Read-Inspired Cocktail

As cheesy as it was, I truly enjoyed reading Beach Read by Emily Henry!

Because it’s January and we just got out of an extended spooky season, the Borderline Millennials Book Club has finally set down the horror, thriller, and mystery books! Don’t get me wrong, this book club has made me LOVE a good thriller and suspense novel, but it is incredibly refreshing to read a book that is truly lighthearted!

You can read more of my review here, but let’s get to the good stuff; the Beach Read book club questions!

Beach Read Discussion Questions:

  1. Put yourself in January’s shoes…how would you have managed in her situation?

  2. January has a chip on her shoulder from negative reactions to her genre of choice. Have you ever felt “Book shamed” for liking a particular genre? Career shamed? (Question from Emily Henry)

  3. This book brings up the idea of closure, and how if someone has passed, it may be near impossible to gain closure with them. Do you think finding closure is necessary in order to understand and heal from a negative situation?

  4. The author notes that Beach Read is “a book about writer’s block.” Do you think January & Gus’ strategy for clearing their writer’s block was effective? What strategies do you use to clear your writer’s block/creative block?

  5. What did you feel when reading the letters from January’s dad? Do you think he deserves January’s forgiveness?

  6. We have to talk about that ending! Are you satisfied? Why?

  7. Though January and Gus have technically known each other for years, they’ve only dated less than a year before they got engaged. Do you think their relationship will last the long haul? Are they a good match for each other?

  8. By the time you’ve finished this book, you’ve also sort of finished two other books…January’s and Augustus’ books! Would you *actually* read either of their books if they were real?

  9. Which character in Beach Read did you feel most connected to?

  10. In your opinion, why was this book titled, Beach Read? Do you think it was an accurate title? If not, what do you think it should’ve been named?
