The Best Trick or Treating in Los Angeles is at Cemetery Lane!
Cemetery Lane is the nostalgic trick-r-treating experience I didn’t know I needed.
Close your eyes, and picture the perfect street to trick-r-treat on. If you’re like me, when you closed your eyes, you saw the neighborhood from the original Hocus Pocus movie. You know the one I’m talking about—the big, white, Victorian Homes perfectly decorated with timeless Halloween decorations. It’s basically every kid’s dream.
I’m here to tell you that your vision has come true at Cemetery Lane.
Cemetery Lane is an authentic trick-r-treating experience and event located within Heritage Square, an outdoor Museum of eight homes built during the Victorian era. Some of these homes are even said to be haunted, which only adds to the spookiness of this Halloween event. Not only do attendees get to trick-r-treat at thirteen themed stops, but you’ll also get to step inside and walk around one home that has been transformed into Frankenstein’s manor!
Like many of the events I’ve been going to lately, Cemetery Lane is family-friendly! Kids two-years-old or under are free and for everyone else, prices range from $27-$32. With your purchase, you’ll get a commemorative, plastic treat bag to fill with candy along your journey through the neighborhood and access to all of the candy stops and interactive activities. The event is technically accessible, though there are lots of gravel and small rocks that would make pushing or using a wheelchair very difficult.
That all being said, Arjuna and I had a fantastic time at this event! While stopping to take tons of photos and videos, we only spent just over an hour at Cemetery Lane. We could have spent longer there if we had kids who wanted to play every game multiple times or if we had stopped to have dinner at one of the food stands available on-site. We did, however, stop at the seller's market to buy a cute bath bomb from a local small business and took our time strolling through the mini hay maze along the trail.
Aside from all of the activities, my favorite part was just getting to see all of the Victorian homes decorated for Halloween and trick-r-treating at their doorstep. Each of the houses had a different theme and a costumed actor at the front to pass out candy. One of my favorite actors was stationed at the last house on the right, disguised as a famous movie producer. To add a little spice to his routine, he asked each trick-r-treater to “audition” for a spot in his upcoming play (that he makes up right on the spot based on whatever costume the trick-r-treater is wearing). He, along with all the other costumed staff members, did a great job staying in character and were all so fun, friendly, and spooky.
Overall, I had the best time, and whether or not you have kids to bring with you, I think you will too! It was a nice break from the scary side of Halloween, and made me feel like a kid again! I’d recommend anyone to attend this event, and you should DEFINITELY arrive in costume!
Pro Tip: Book a ticket with an earlier time slot so you can arrive at sunset, and watch the neighborhood transform into its nightly costume! You’ll get to enjoy the houses in daylight and in the darkness.
